Making even coils by hand is difficult - even for professional potters. Small variations in pressure quickly show up in the finished piece, whether that’s a handle, a foot or a coil-built form.
This coil roller is designed to take that inconsistency out of the process. A piece of clay is fed in at one end and, with a simple manual back-and-forth motion, is rolled and compressed into a smooth, even coil.
At the centre of the unique design is a tapered underside. As the clay moves through, the taper gradually reduces it down to a set gap between the tool and the table surface. That gap determines the final diameter, so the coil comes out consistent along its length as evenly as though it had been extruded - but better because it has also been under compression along its length.
The included size adapters set that gap, allowing you to choose the diameter you need. Swap them over to produce different coil sizes depending on the job.
There’s no setup, no fixing to the wall, and no cleanup associated with a traditional extruder. It’s a simple handheld tool that can be picked up and used as needed.
